Tardy Policy

Promptness to class is very important.  Students are to be in their seats and ready to work when the bell sounds.  Students who are tardy interrupt not only their own educational program, but that of others as well.  Tardy Policy rules are as follows:
  • Tardy records are kept on a quarterly basis.
  • Tardies are dealt with in the following manner.
    • 1st Tardy – Warning in class by teacher to student.
    • 2nd Tardy – Notification of 2nd Tardy sent home with student to parent.
    • 3rd Tardy – Referral to office, “N” in citizenship for the quarter.
    • 4th Tardy – Referral to office, one hour after school detention, and “U” in class citizenship for the quarter.
    • 5th Tardy – Referral to office, (2) one hour after school detentions, loss of after school activities.
    • 6th Tardy – Enrollment in the Haskell Middle School Three-Tiered Student Behavioral Contract or, if already on the contract, moved to next level.
  • Any student late to Homeroom should go to his/her Homeroom class.  The teacher will record the tardy.  If the roll sheet for Homeroom has been sent to the office, the Homeroom teacher will send the student to the office for the tardy to be recorded.
  • Students tardy during 1st period or thereafter must report to the office to sign-in on the Daily Tardy Sheet, be issued a tardy slip and report to class.
  • Excused tardies are granted ONLY for the following reasons:
    • Personal Illness – with a note from the parent attesting to the illness.
    • Dentist or Doctor’s appointment – If you have been to an early morning medical/dental appointment, we need to have some form of paperwork verifying that you were there.  If you missed one or more periods you must get a Re-Admit Slip for the classes missed.
  • Students with a chronic record of tardies will be referred to the ABCUSD Student Attendance Review Board for further assistance.
